In industrial processes, process innovation on an energy and environmental level is the key factor for an ecological transition of the production system. To promote these objectives, Italy is a pioneering case in the European panorama in promoting market tools to incentivize and promote investments in energy efficiency. The Energy Efficiency Certificates tool (TEE or White Certificates) has played an important role both in terms of results (about 80% of the total energy savings) and in terms of the efficiency of the tool: lower costs for the same amount of energy saved and CO2 avoided, guarantee of technological neutrality with respect to interventions and functional coherence with respect to the ETS mechanism and the energy markets
